BENEFITS of EXPERIENCE
Phil Brings to Your Project

Phil understands the businesses of design and construction…

At the end of 18 years in the profession of architecture, Phil was Sr. Vice President of a 40-person architecture firm.

As part of the firm’s senior management team, he had oversight repsonsibility for marketing, for the central computer system, and for personnel issues. At the same time, the design studio he managed was consistently successful as a profit center.

I consider that experience to be one of the best lessons about professional responsibility of my life…there were many hats to wear and sometimes conflicting priorities. I had to learn how to balance all of the complex relationships.

Phil has empathy for clients and understands the need to educate them…

As a real estate developer Phil often was the client of architects and contractors. That gives him a unique perspective about the many relationships in a construction project.

Unfortunately, many real estate developers see hiring architects as marginally necessary to accomplishing their end goal. The reality is the architect is of paramount importance in the process of constructing buildings.

The success of a project often depends on the quality of the owner/consultant relationship. The consultant must embrace their responsibility as an educator. Most clients have a desire, and a need, to be educated. We understand what is needed…

Phil understands the many relationships that make up a construction project…

Planning boards. Zoning boards. Architects. Structural engineers. Mechanical engineers. Electrical engineers. Interior designers. Lighting consultants. General contractors. Sub-contractors for every trade. Building code officials. Lenders. Building committees. The list goes on and on…

There really seems to be no end to the number of relationships required to accomplish a construction project. Sometimes the owner’s representative is often expected to take the lead as a public relations expert.

That’s why it is so important that consulting be seen as an education process about what our clients must know to accomplish their project. That’s why I am dedicated to helping my clients understand the entire process.

The one approach that does not work well is taking the process for granted…I understand that.
