What Is An “OCR”?
What does an Owner’s Construction Representative do?
An Owner’s Construction Representative is the person who works directly for the Owner of a construction project. The OCR coordinates and manages all other outside consultants needed for the project, and coordinates them with the Owner’s staff.
The list of other consultants, contractors, and government agencies could be as short as a construction manager who hires an architect. The list could also be quite extensive: architects, engineers, contractors, sub-contractors, government permitting agencies, lenders, grantors, etc.
The OCR works only for the owner’s best interests and makes sure all other parties, and decisions made, are working in the best interests of the owner.
Why Hire an OCR?
An OCR is a professional consultant who has the knowledge and experience to know what all other consultants need to do to make the project a success. Construction projects are complex because building construction is complex…and the building construction is only a part of the whole picture.
A professional OCR understands the design process, the construction process, the government permitting agencies’ requirements, and the lenders’ and grantors’ requirements…
Your OCR is your advocate with all other parties throughout the life of your project.
